The Truth Behind Success – Tony Robbins

Tony Robbins is one of the big names in the online world and among coaches from all different fields, many of which wish to become their version of Tony.

He is an author, coach, speaker, and philanthropist known for his seminars, infomercials, and self-help books. He even has a Netflix Documentary called “Tony Robbins I am not your guru”

So let’s take a closer look at Tony Robbins and his life-career-business history. Let’s uncover point A (the start) and point B (where he is at today).

“You are going to take the time to fully develop, and you are going to find a way to enjoy along the way” Tony Robbins 

 

Tony had a tough start in life… 

Point A: Eldest of three children, parents divorced, unstable family and home environment, left home at age of 17 

Since he had to provide for himself so early, he started to work as a janitor. his very first job! He already had a passion for self-development and discovered during high school his passion for public speaking.

He was not able to go to college.

One day, he found out Jim Rohn was speaking around the area he lived in, so he spent almost his monthly wage to watch that motivational speak and ASKED him for a job.

He wanted a different life and he had the courage and asked for an opportunity. (turning point)

Around age 20 he was running his own seminars. He had become an NLP practitioner and Ericksonian hypnosis and partnered up with NLP co-founder John Grinder, and he learned to firewalk. 

If you don’t know what firewalk is, it literally means walking barefoot over a bed of hot embers or stones! 

Why did he do that? 

His whole brand is built around confidence, facing your fears, having the courage to take any challenge and firewalk represents all of that.

You can’t run or stay too long on that path, otherwise, you get hurt. Calmly walking through the hot embers is what you must do. 

At age 26, he released his first book Unlimited Power: The New Science of Personal Achievement

At age 28, he released his first infomercial for his self-help program “Personal Power” – watch it here

The Personal Power Program was a series of tapes that help change your conditioning and take action among other things.

At age 37 (in 1997) he launched the Leadership Academy seminar and founded the Robbins-Madanes Center for Intervention.

 

Point B: To this day, Tony Robbins is involved in 31 companies and manages 12. It’s reported a $5 billion in annual revenue.

It’s also said he charges $1 million a year for personal coaching.

 

One thing to notice is that Tony Robbins is the Chairman of his Holding.  

As per his LinkedIn profile, Tony Robbins Holdings is a conglomerate of businesses in industries as diverse as hospitality, education, media production, business services, and neutraceuticals. The enterprise includes worldwide seminar and product business Robbins Research International, Namale Resort & Spa in Fiji, Twin Lab & Metabolife, Fortune Practice Management, and a variety of businesses including media production under Tony Robbins Productions.

He is a visionary and a business owner, by that I mean he leverages other people’s skills and talents to create his empire.

 

He worked HARD on his own development.

He made strategic decisions when it came to the skills he needed to learn and master to take his business to the next level.

 

He partnered and hired experts to work on the areas he is not a master at (and does not need to be)

 

He understands the stages of business and how to make SMART business decisions along the way.

He has a long-term vision, and he STAYED THE COURSE.

His mission in his first years of business did not change, it evolved, it has grown and expanded.

 

Here are my key takeaways from his history:

 

He started with a desire for change and to have a better life. He understood early on that his strength was in public speaking and based on his personal life and the change he wanted to make in his own life, he chooses the path of personal growth and made that his mission.

He strategically selected the skills he needed to learn to grow his business and achieve his ultimate goal.

He understood the power of marketing, the art of persuasion, how to read people and understand them, how to deeply connect with his audience, and how to become an influencer and a true leader.

 

In sum:
  • Strategically choose and develop the skills you need.  
  • Focus on becoming a leader in your field
  • Invest in marketing
  • Build strong relationships
  • Diversify your income source
  • Don’t be afraid to take risks
  • Stay the course
  • Take action

 

It won’t be easy, and it won’t happen overnight. But it will happen if you don’t lose sight of it and focus on the right things.
